Chelsea’s domination in FIFA’s THE BEST awards

Both the men’s and women’s teams of Chelsea had an unforgettable season in 2020-21. In the FIFA THE BEST award ceremony, it was predictable that Chelsea would at least grab two awards. They grabbed three awards in total.

Thomas Tuchel has been named The Best FIFA Men’s Coach and Emma Hayes The Best FIFA Women’s Coach at The Best FIFA Awards 2021 ceremony in Zurich. Edouard Mendy won the award for the best goalkeeper.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel won the award after he took the Blues to the 2021 Champions League. Tuchel beat out Pep Guardiola and Italy boss Roberto Mancini. “It was a pretty normal day so far at training. I have just come here,” Tuchel said. “But now you have said my name, and it is pretty surreal. I am overwhelmed and a bit uncomfortable.

“I enjoy the journey and the club. It is a good fit. The company on the journey is so good. We lost a bit of track to Manchester City in the league but we follow our goals still and be the best version of ourselves.” he said.

The German manager created history after reaching the Carabao Cup final this month. Thomas Tuchel has become the first Chelsea manager to lead the club to the finals of the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions League.

He also congratulated Emma Hayes for winning the award. “Big congratulations to Emma and all her staff and the Women’s team. They are doing an amazing job. We are in a competitive club and I think she is as proud as me to be part of it. We try to contribute as much as possible.”

Emma Hayes won the BEST award after converting Chelsea into a top-class team. In England, they were the dominating team. No other club was able to match the energy the team had.

Chelsea Women manager took the team to the pinnacle by winning every domestic trophy last season. The Women’s Super League, the FA Cup and the Continental Cup – and for the first time in the club’s history, a Chelsea side reached the Women’s Champions League final. In the WSL, they achieved a record-breaking 32-game unbeaten streak.

Hayes was named WSL Manager of the Season for 2020/21 and was inducted into the FA WSL Hall of Fame.

On winning the award, she said: “I’m completely shocked. I put it down to the players, the fantastic people that represent my work. Ultimately the coach is only as good as the people they have around them and I’ve got brilliant, brilliant people at Chelsea that have helped to support the team to the place we are at.”
