New Arsenal striker claims he turned down offers from Liverpool and Tottenham

Bordeaux striker Marouane Chamakh has today admitted that he turned down offers from several clubs including Tottenham and Liverpool before deciding to join Arsenal.

The Moroccan international has been linked with a move to Arsenal for several months before it was revealed earlier this year that he would indeed be moving to the Emirates stadium this summer.

Chamakh is considered by many as one of the hottest prospects in European football and I for one can’t wait to see how he adapts to the pace of the Premier League.

Speaking to the French newspaper, L’Equipe, the 26-year old had this to say : “I am delighted to join the English football atmosphere, it is something amazing. I love Arsenal’s game.”

Chamakh went on to say : “In February, I made my decision. A departure clause (in a potential new Bordeaux contract) was not logical after refusing Arsenal last summer. Arsenal were not alone. There were Liverpool, Tottenham and crazy offers from Russia.”

I’m not surprised to hear that the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool were also interested in Chamakh because he really is a talent. There is no doubt that he will have to raise his game even further if he is to be a success in England but from watching him in this season’s Champions League, I reckon Chamakh will prove to be a cracking signing for Arsenal.
