Bohemians and St.Pat’s meet tonight for the first time this season in a top of the table encounter. Both sides have got their season’s off to unbeaten starts and will be looking to maintain that after tonights game.
The Champions have the home advantage in this Dublin derby with the game kicking off at 19.45 pm at Dalymount. Pat Fenlon and Pete Mahon will be hoping to gain an upper hand in the title race by securing 3 points tonight.
Bohemians go into the game on the back of a 2-1 victory over Linfield in the Setanta Cup on Saturday. Pat Fenlon used this game to rest certain players such as Jason Byrne and Paddy Madden. Byrne will be hoping to start after his impressive goal scoring start to the season. Barry Murphy may regain his place in goal for The Gypsies after Chris O’Connor’s unconvincing performance against Linfield.
Elsewhere, Mark Quigley will be hoping to endear himself to the Bohemains faithful after a poor start to the season, a quality performance against his former employers may be just what is needed to kick start his season. Brian Shelly will be hoping to get back to his usual self after his nervy showing against Linfield, the former Drogheda defender has been an influential member of Bohemians defence in the past 2 years.
St.Pat’s have gotten their season off to a very impressive start and have yet to concede in their opening 5 fixtures. Going forward, Pat’s have impressed also with the likes of Alex Williams and Vinny Faherty putting in solid displays for the Inchicore club. Pete Mahon has instilled a level of consistency within the Pat’s defence which has been missing in years gone by.
Gary Rogers has impressed in goal for the Saints, whilst his back four has remained as solid as a rock so far. Iain Bermingham has provided an attacking threat from left back wihtout neglecting his defensive duties. Connor Kenna and Shane Guthrie have been impressive in the centre of the Pat’s defence and has given the team a platform to build on. Stuart Byrne has provided a wealth of experience in the middle of the park for the Inchicore club whereas, Ryan Guy has been perhaps the stand out performer for the Saints.
The game is bound to be a tight affair with both sides knowing a win could give them a much needed edge in the title race. Bohemians will have to work hard in order to break down a Pat’s defence that has been impressive this season, whereas The Saints will have to be cautious of The Champions undoubted attacking abilities. In this close encounter, the slightest mistake could prove decisive.
