It has been announced in the last few moments that Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will miss the rest of the season after breaking his leg in his side’s 2-2 draw with Barcelona last night.
The Spanish midfielder seem to injure himself whilst running back to his own half after he converted from the spot to bring the two sides level at the Emirates on Wednesday evening.
Fabregas said after the game that he thought he may have broke his leg and unfortunately for him and indeed Arsenal, he was right. Despite suffering the injury, the 22-year old played out the remainder of the game.
This is obviously devastating news for both the player and the club. With just 6 games to go in the Premier League season, it goes without saying that Arsenal need all their best players available if they are to lift the title at the end of the season.
So with Fabregas now sidelined for the run-in, we can safely say that Arsenal will not be lifting any silverware come the end of the season. That may sound harsh given the fact that they are only 4 points behind Manchester United and are also still in the Champions League quarter-final, however with Arshavin and Gallas also ruled out for several weeks, I can’t see the Gunners winning many more games this season.
