After weeks and months of speculation surrounding his future, it has, this evening, been confirmed that Frank Lampard will leave Chelsea at the end of the season.
The England midfielder has been left in limbo for the past few months, with the Stamford Bridge club refusing to offer the 34-year the required deal to keep him at the club.
Despite the confusion surrounding his future, Lampard has continued to perform like his old self on the field and was recently in spectacular form, scoring twice in a come from behind 2-1 away to Everton.
The news about Lampard’s future was announced by his agent, Steve Kutner, who had this to say: “At this time, Lampard thinks only of the present. That is Chelsea.”
“On the future, the only certain thing is that he’ll change team at the end of the season.”
Kutner went on to add: “Frank wants to play in a great team, able to fight for important goals and winning other trophies.”
It is a real shame that it has come to this, but as is the case in both life and sport, nothing ever lasts forever. It will be strange to see Lampard playing in anything other than Chelsea blue, but one thing is for sure, whoever gets him will still have a quality player on their hands.
