League of Ireland Interview – Karl Sheppard

Football Corner is delighted to announce the start of our new feature ‘League of Ireland Interview’. Each week we plan to catch up with a player from the League of Ireland and gauge their opinions relating to the beautiful game.

This week, Football Corner caught up with Karl Sheppard of Galway United. The former Everton and Ireland under 18 international signed for Galway during the close season and has made a bright start to his career at Terryland Park. Karl was kind enough to take the time out to answer our questions.

Q. What have you made of the standard of the League since joining Galway?

A. Standard is good. It is a rough league but also you have some very good technically gifted players.

Q. Have you set yourself any personal goals for the season?

A. Yeah, 15 – 20 goals

Q. Did you enjoy your time at Everton?

A. I wouldn’t say I enjoyed it but I did learn a lot about football.

Q. Would you like to return to England someday?

A. Yeah but I would only move if I saw it as a good move for me.

Q. Who’s the best player you’ve played with?

A. Jack Rodwell. Brilliant player.

Q. Who’s the best player you’ve played against?

A. Danny Welbeck.

Q. You recently scored a stunning goal against Sporting Fingal, Do you consider this the best goal you’ve ever scored?

A. No. I’d have to put it as my second best. My best was for Shelbourne in a big match against Crumlin at the time.

Q. Three words to sum up Sean Connor?

A. Passionate, Determined and Professional

Q. Who’s going to win the League of Ireland this year?

A. Can’t see past Bohs.

Q. Ronaldo or Messi?

A. Messi

Q. What is the best stadium you’ve played in?

A. Croke Park

Q. What can Galway achieve this season?

A. A top 5 finish
