Bayern Munich have tonight qualified for the Champions League semi-finals after coming from 3-0 down at Old Trafford to eventually lose 3-2 which saw the German giants progress on the away goal rule.
Manchester United started incredibly well this evening, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men were 2-0 up within 6 minutes with Darron Gibson and Nani scoring the goals. They stretched their advantage soon after when Nani doubled his tally on the night and at that stage, Bayern looked down and out.
The Bundesliga leaders got a goal back just minutes before the ref blew the half-time whistle when Ivica Olic capitalized on some sloppy United defending to squeeze the ball in from a tight angle. The real turning point of the match came when United defender Rafael was shown his 2nd yellow card and from then on, Bayern were on the attack.
It was none other than Arjen Robben, the former Chelsea winger, who scored the winning goal (well not the winner on the night, but you know what I mean) for the visitors and what a goal it was. Robben blasted the ball past Edwin Van Der Sar from all of 20-yards to send the travelling Bayern fans into hysterics.
United huffed and puffed for the remainder of the game but it wasn’t enough and it’s Bayern who move one step closer to the final. In the end, Ferguson’s decision to play Rooney didn’t pay off. Rooney was taken off with half an hour to go with the England striker clearly limping, having taken a knock on that troublesome ankle earlier in the match.
So what do you think? What does this mean for United’s season?
