You really do have to feel for David Beckham.
In case you haven’t already heard, the England midfielder has this evening torn his left Achilles tendon and as a result will now miss this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.
Beckham, who is now 34, sustained the injury during AC Milan’s 1-0 win 0ver Chievo at the San Siro. The former Manchester United man is likely to be out of action for the next 6 to 9 months.
Speculation is mounting that this will now see Beckham retire from international football and maybe even retire from the game altogether.
Personally, I was very saddened when I heard the news this evening. Having seen him work so hard over the past few months in his attempt to make it into Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad and now this happens. It’s just awful.
Over the years he has struck me as one of the nicer guys in football and I for one wish him all the best in the coming months.
