That’s the opinion of Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez recently questioned Barry’s decision to join City by claiming it was all to do with the money. Barry, 28, became Mark Hughes’ first summer signing when he completed his £12 million move from Aston Villa this time last month.
It is understood that Barry is now earning as much as £95,000 a week, however the England international has today hit back at Benitez by claiming he was jus upset he didn’t join Liverpool.
When asked about Benitez’ comments, Barry had this to say : “I found Rafa Benitez’s comments a bit disrespectful. By that stage my decision was made and people should move on. There was genuine interest from Liverpool and I think he’s probably just upset I chose City.”
I’m delighted to see Barry respond to Benitez’ comments in the way he has. Although I do agree that money played a part in Barry’s move to Eastlands, I think Benitez is just jealous he doesn’t have the kind of resources Mark Hughes has. It will be interesting to see how this war of words pans out over the coming weeks.
